Welcome to Cheryl’s place! I’m thrilled to have you here.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I’ve been writing historical romance for almost twenty years. My first books were set in the dark age and medieval eras but later I was drawn to the Regency time period. I enjoy writing about not only the elegant realm of the lords and ladies of the ton, but the gritty London underworld that existed at the same time. Both aspects of this world play a part in my romance Saint Sin.
What is your favorite pastime, other than writing?
It’s a tie between gardening and travel. If I had the money, I’d travel so much I probably wouldn’t have time to garden! There’s so many places I’d love to see, plus I never get enough of visiting Ireland, Wales and England. (Haven’t been to Scotland yet.)
When did you first get the writing bug?
As a child growing up in the country with few playmates (my sisters were older), I spent hours telling myself stories. I’ve also been a voracious reader since age five. But as an adult I read mostly literary fiction, which I knew I couldn’t write, so it wasn’t until I started working at a library and discovered historical romance that I dared to start my first book. Historical romance beautifully combines my passion for history with my interest in relationships and their profound impact on our lives.
Any advice for new writers just starting out?
Write what you love. Everyone says that, but it’s true. Writing is a lot of work and takes persistence and motivation. And you have to love your characters and story, otherwise readers won’t.
What genre or genres do you write?
In addition to historical romance, I’ve written mainstream historical fiction, fantasy and time travel.

Saint Sin is a sexy historical romance set in the glittering ballrooms, sinister gambling hells and sordid back alleyways of Regency England.
When decadent earl Michael St. Cyr, Saint Sin, discovers Ariella Lyndgate in his bedchamber, he assumes she’s a fashionable impure sent to entertain him. Ariella is really there to steal a diamond so she can pay off her brother’s debts and save him from prison… or worse. Although she has no choice but to go along with the earl’s scandalous suggestions, she discovers she quite enjoys their sexplay. She ends up entangled in an erotic web of deception, and soon comes to the horrifying realization that to save her brother, she must betray the man she’s falling in love with.

Ariella watched him breathlessly. From the looks he’d given her, she’d thought he meant to grab her and kiss her. She hadn’t expected him to start with questions.
“Come, now.” His voice rang out, sharp with impatience. “You’ll have to learn to think on your feet if you’re going to succeed at this game.”
“Game, My Lord?” Ariella asked as she thought frantically of what to say next.
He drew near to her, his expression cynical. “Dear me, I forgot. You’re a proper young woman from Derbyshire. Only been in London for a few months. Someone like you couldn’t possibly be up to anything deceitful.”
