RWA 2016 Nationals

I had a great time at Nationals and wanted to share my memories with you. I met up with my BFF Char Chaffin. She's also my writing partner under the pen-name CiCi Cordelia, and fellow senior acquisitions editor with Soul Mate Publishing. We had the great pleasure of conducting a Soul Mate Publishing Spotlight together. I was nervous, but it went really well, and I'm pleased with the great questions we received from the attending authors.

We also conducted pitch appointments, as did the other attending Soul Mate acquisition editors, and we're looking forward to receiving some really great submissions. I have a few in my inbox already, and I'm anxious to dig into them.

The editors' dinner, with Janet Clementz
and Samantha McMahon, was a really fun time.

We learned a lot from each other.

Like the fact that Janet is a wild and crazy woman. lol

A good time was had by all.

We met up with author Susan B. James, who wrote Time And Forever, a really great book, btw. And I'm not just saying that because I'm her editor! Not only is Susan an amazing author, she's a very talented actress, under the name Susan Berger. And she's promised to tell Sam Elliott 'hi' for me, and I'm holding her to it. ;)

We managed to find time for a writing retreat, and completed a set of edits for our newest paranormal story, Realm Of The Dragon, under CiCi Cordelia.

Check out the dueling keyboards!

Char and I are both attending the Writers Police Academy event in mid-August, and hope to finish up Realm Of The Dragon. Look for it in early January, 2017, followed by twelve other novellas in The Soul Mate Tree Project. Once book a month will be released through January, 2018.

Enjoy this promotional trailer from The Soul Mate Tree.

We had a small gathering of Soul Mate authors in our hotel suite one evening, and provided pizza and wine. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures to share. Sorry about that. But it was a nice time.

Then came the big night...The Rita's. We got all dolled up and had a great time. Met some really interesting women in the long line to get inside, and checked out some really great outfits and awe-inspiring shoes. How do they walk in those!?

I'm all about the comfort.

So much fun! But, it's good to be home.

The Soul Mate Tree, Realm Of The Dragon, by CiCi Cordelia

CiCi Cordelia is the pen name for the writing team of BFFs Char Chaffin and Cheryl Yeko.

Char and I came up with the idea of The Soul Mate Tree while brainstorming ideas for Soul Mate Publishing. We wanted a vehicle to showcase our talented authors and create a following for a series. We are very excited about The Soul Mate Tree and the stories for this project. If the readers love the Soul Mate Tree as much as our authors do, we plan to write more for 2018.

Other projects are currently percolating, and we hope to have more fun offerings for our readers very soon.

Look for The Soul Mate Tree Starting January 2017.

An ancient legend spanning eras, continents, and worlds. To some, it’s nothing more than a dream. To others, a pretty fairy tale handed down through the generations. For those in critical need of their own happy ending, a gift.

We hope you enjoy The Soul Mate Tree. To kick it off, Char and I wrote Realm Of The Dragon under our pen-name, CiCi Cordelia.

Look for Realm Of The Dragon to be released in
January 2017.

For sheltered Amy Kiers, it’s all too real. Her escape from danger, straight into the arms of her destiny.

Thrust into a realm made of legend, fantasy, and unbridled passion, Amy faces violent resentment and jealousy from extremely powerful enemies. Amidst fierce creatures whose very existence defy all common sense, Amy pieces together a past she could never have imagined.

Claimed by Cord, Prince of Battle Draconian, their love will not be denied, even as malevolent forces plot to rip them apart.

Enjoy This (very) Short Teaser:

The creature blinked, heavy lids flickering, and she once again stared into its large, slitted golden eyes.

“I won’t hurt you.” The dragon’s powerful voice held a soothing quality, and its snake eyes appeared sincere. Then it ruined the moment by leaning down to sniff her. “Mmm. You smell like apples and honey.”

Between Midnight And Dawn

Kyle Wade has spent over half his life seeking justice for his mother’s brutal murder at the hands of the serial killer known as C.H.K. His efforts lead him to Nicole Chambers, a woman he quickly develops strong feelings for.

Now he’s torn between keeping Nicole safe, or using her as bait to capture the monster

Here's a Fun Excerpt:

Nicole paced nervously, waiting for Kyle to return. She’d thrown on her workout clothes; a black pair of Capris, a long purple T-shirt with large cut-out armholes, and a black sports bra peeking out from underneath. She was covered practically from head to foot, so why did she get so nervous thinking about Kyle seeing her in the outfit?
Because he’ll be touching me, that’s why. And though not as daring as what a lot of the women wore at the club, it still showed far more skin than Nicole was used to, except when she was working out. Did this qualify?
This is a bad idea.
Her doorbell rang.
She took a steadying breath. Too late to back out.
When she opened the door and Kyle saw her, his eyes lit with a smoldering fire. But all he said was, “Ready?” as he walked past her, greeting her dog, “Hey, Charlie.”
Taking a moment to close the door, and calm her jittery nerves, she turned back to him. The desire she’d so clearly recognized in his heated stare, had lessened to a more neutral expression.
He nodded toward the living room, where she’d pushed the furniture out of the way, clearing a large spot in the middle. “You should have waited for me to help.”
Nicole rolled her eyes. “Please. I do vacuum, you know. The furniture doesn’t move itself.”
A slightly crooked smile curved Kyle’s lips as Charlie headed over to his dog bed for a nap. “Suppose not.”
Her stomach fluttered. He was too charming for his own good. How in the hell was she supposed to resist him? No men rule, remember. Gah! What a dumb rule. What had she been thinking?
Maybe that your taste in men is crap, and you needed a good long break after the last guy you dated almost killed you.
Oh, yeah. That was it.
Kyle moved to the center of the room, looking all too fine in a pair of tight jeans. He waved her over with two crooked fingers. Her cheeks flamed, hoping he hadn’t caught her checking him out. But by the smirk on his face, she figured he had.
“Now,” he said as she approached, his tone shifting to all business. “If someone tries to grab you, whatcha gonna do?”
“Um. Run away?”
He nodded. “Might work. But, let’s say he manages to get a hold of you. What then?”
She licked her dry lips, nerves rolling around in her stomach. “Is this a trick question?”
The smile that split his face stole her breath. Gone was the serious tenant-slash-police officer from her backyard cottage. The man who stood before her now was a total, flat out, hands-down, no-question-about-it, hottie. His sex appeal exploded into the room like an atomic bomb filling up every nook and cranny.
And in just a minute or so, he was going to put his hands on her.
Ohmygod. Trouble. Seriously.
Maybe this really wasn’t such a good idea—
Nicole screamed when she was suddenly grabbed and her back brought up against Kyle’s chest. One arm clamped around her waist, the other across her throat.
Her natural instinct was to struggle, but he had one leg wrapped around her shins, totally immobilizing her. The heat from Kyle’s body burned her up, and she wasn’t unaware of the rising bulge against the small of her back. Excitement tickled through her.
Charlie let out a little bark, but only lazily watched them. She scowled at him. Some guard dog!
Mouth pressed against her ear, Kyle murmured in a seductive drawl, “If I were the bad guy, sweetheart, your pretty little ass would be mine right now.”

SHORT:
“Now,” he said as she approached, his tone shifting to all business. “If someone tries to grab you, whatcha gonna do?”
“Um. Run away?”

The 25th Annual Wisconsin Romance Writers of America 2016 Fab Five contest submission deadline is two weeks away!

This contest is available to writers unpublished in book-length romance fiction. Self-published authors may also apply. Your entry must be limited to the first 2,500 words of your manuscript and must be submitted electronically. For an entry form and complete details regarding rules and eligibility, click the Contests link on our website: http://www.wisrwa.org/

Grab this opportunity for a critique of your work with the prospect that our final round judges may ask to see more of it. We are low on entries this year in all our categories so your chance of getting your work in front of our final round judges is greater.

As part of our 25th anniversary celebration, we have a few added surprises for our entrants:

•Every entry that opts in will have a chance to win a free registration (does not include lodging, food or travel expenses) to the October 8, 2016 WisRWA Writer’s Workshop in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. The winner will be announced June 1, 2016.

•Every entry entered into the 2016 Fab Five Contest will be entered into a drawing for a critique (whether the entry finals or not) by an industry professional. Winners of the critiques will be announced on April 16, 2016, at which time their Fab Five entries will be sent to one of the industry professionals. Should the industry professionals wish to see more of the entry they critique, they will ask for it in their critique. Critiques will be returned to the winners by late May.

Our fees continue to be among the lowest for contests of this type – just $18 for WisRWA members and $25 for all other entrants.

Reviews Are Rolling In For Sizzle In The Snow

The Romance Studio

" . . . This is a great collection. Each one was unique with a twist on the usual Christmas romances. I really enjoyed the diversity. You never knew what the next story would be about and it was always a surprise.

Here are some of my favorites.
Santa Baby (Beth Carter) What happens when your anonymous, on-the-rebound, one-night-stand of nine months ago turn out to be the doctor delivering your baby? Merry Christmas, Santa Baby. Say hello to your daddy.
‘Twas the Crazy Night Before Christmas (Crystal Firsdon) Far away from home and lonely on Christmas Eve, Clara had a few drinks in a neighbor bar, then headed for a nearby liquor store so she could continue her pity party at home. A half-hour later, she and Drew, another customer and witness to the disastrous store robbery, were trying to outrun the two gun-toting thugs whose faces they had both seen. But how was Clara suppose to keep her mind on running when she’d rather slow down and enjoy being in her protector’s arms?
Christmas Eve Surprise (Cheryl Yeko) Steve had found himself falling in love seven months ago and told Amy he’d be back for her soon. Unfortunately, his CIA supervisor had other ideas and he’d been gone six months when he finally returned to try and find the love of his life. Alone, pregnant with twins, and working in a ratty dive to survive, Amy had cursed Steve for six months…until he arrived to rescue her, her miracle on Christmas Eve.
Sizzle in the Snow is a great collection of love stories and it doesn’t have to be the Christmas season ..."
